Soccer - Recreation
Welcome to the Marlton Soccer Recreational (In-Town) Program
Each age group / league builds on the previous one. In addition, for each league, there is a boys league and a girls league (unless otherwise noted). The official start date of the fall season is the first Saturday after Labor Day weekend. (For fall 2024, the season will begin on September 7th.) Coaches are expected to contact their teams during the month of August. Uniforms will be provided prior to opening day.

Description |
U-6 | PreK- K | The age groups (preK and K) are separated. Pug style goals are used. Games are against other teams on a 4v4 (4 versus 4) configuration without goalies. All games and practices are held on Saturdays beginning with opening day. The practices are run prior to actual games. While the coaches will contact the teams prior to opening day, practices will not commence until opening day. Participation trophies will be given to everyone. |
U-8 | 1-2 | The field of play is now structured (goal and penalty areas, etc.). Games are 7v7 which includes a goalie. A combination of coaches and / or referees will be used for the games. Basic rules of goal and corner kicks are upheld as well as and offside calls which will be managed in adherence to the built-out line/rules. The main learning objective is positioning. Goals used are 6.5' by 18'. Participation trophies are given to everyone. Practices are held separate of games under the three activities per week rule (i.e. two practices and one game per week, one practice and two games per week) at most. Coaches may conduct practices prior to opening day in the month of August. |
U-10 | 3-4 | Teams will be selected randomly by the league coordinator. Public standings are generated and a playoff system is utilized. The field continues to increase in size and the goals used are the 7' by 21' size. Games are 9v9 including goalies. A full referee system is utilized. The main learning objectives are focused on throw-ins, set pieces (corner kicks, free kicks, goal kicks), and the concept of offside. |
U-12 | 5-6 | Draft system used. Public standings are generated. Knockout tournament used for playoffs to end the season. Fields are even bigger and the goals used are 7' by 21'. Games are 9v9 with goalies. The main learning objectives are carried through from U10. Player competitiveness starts to develop. This is the point at which many start thinking about travel play. |
U-14 | 7-8 | Draft system used. Public standings are generated. Includes teams from other towns. Knockout tournament used for playoffs. Fields are even bigger and the goals used are 8' by 24'. Games are 11v11 with 35-minute halves. Resembles the professional game as closely as possible. |
U-18 | 9-12 | This age group includes teams established from other towns. Rules carry through from U14. Marlton manages the league. |

U-14 | 7-8 | This fun, less stress, no-standings league plays games under the U14 set of rules. This age group includes teams established from other towns. |
U-18 | 9-12 | This age group includes teams established from other towns. Rules carry through from U14. Marlton manages the league. |
Referees
Registration is now open for new fall referees. If you are 13 years or older and are interested in being a soccer referee this fall, you must obtain a USSF Entry-Level certification from the New Jersey State Referee Committee (www.njrefs.com). Click on become a referee.
To become a MRC referee, you must register on our website (www.mrcrefs.org) to hold your place as a new MRC soccer referee.
